Following 2017’s inaugural event, Buckingham and Stowe Running Club will once again be organising the Buckingham Half Marathon later this year.

The race will take place on Sunday 20th May at 9.30am, starting and finishing on Maids Moreton playing fields taking in the beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside and passing through the picturesque villages of Leckhampstead, Wicken and Akeley – so if you happen to be in the locality, the runners would certainly appreciate any support you can offer.

Last year this non-profit making event raised well over £5000 for local charities and Race Director, Alex Penny said, “As last year’s race was so successful, resulting in much positive feedback from spectators and runners alike, we have decided to increase the number of entrants and consequently we hope to raise even more money for local charities and good causes in 2018.” The beneficiaries this year will be Willen Hospice, Alec’s Angels – a charity that cares for young cancer sufferers and their families –  and Maids Moreton and Page Hill schools.

The race is being sponsored by Rainscourt Family Law Solicitors of Milton Keynes and Buckingham based Lee Therapies Health and Wellbeing Clinic, Bates Body Factory, The Energy Effect Fitness Studio and The Gallery Dental Practice. The organisers would also like to thank Akeley and Maids Moreton Parish Councils, Buckingham Rugby Club, Vitalograph, Seahawk Trophies, the Ultramarathon Running Store, and Tesco for their support and invaluable contributions.

Some of you may have heard that local physiotherapist, Ruth Hawkins, has set herself the challenge of running 13 marathons and 13 half marathons in 13 weeks to raise money for the MS Society – supporting sufferers and families affected by multiple sclerosis. Ruth intends to complete her challenge by running the Buckingham Half Marathon on May 20th – why not come along and support her? Runners may also like to know that Lee Therapies will be offering massages after the event and half the proceeds will be donated to Ruth Hawkins’ challenge.
